General Motors has added another city to the list to places it will expand its Maven car-sharing service in Atlanta.
Atlanta previously had the Lyft Express Drive program, but GM announced it will deploy its own personal mobility brand to the city in a Thursday, Feb. 9 news release.
The automaker has grown its car-sharing service to 17 different cities in the 11 months since launching it as a University of Michigan pilot project. After its Ann Arbor start, the service has reached Detroit, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, Jersey City, Nashville, New York City, Orlando, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco and Waterloo, Ontario.
Maven, via a smartphone app, can locate, reserve and unlock a vehicle. The app allows users to start, heat up or cool down the car, in addition to other features.
The smartphone app acts as a key fob, essentially.
In Atlanta, hourly rates, plus tax, start as low as $8 which includes gas and insurance. The fleet in Atlanta includes the Cruze, Cruze Hatchback, Malibu, Tahoe and Volt from Chevrolet; GMC's Yukon and Acadia, and the Cadillac ATS and Escalade.
" ... making Maven the perfect option for date night, trips with friends or a job interview. Unlike other local car-sharing services, Maven has no membership or application fees," GM writes in a news release. "New cars packed with technology, features and amenities make the user experience seamless and fully connected."
Maven plans to deploy 50 vehicles at more than 20 locations across Atlanta.
In the release, GM reports that the average Maven trip is 121 miles and lasts more than 13 hours. The car-sharing app's most popular vehicles are both Chevys; the Tahoe and Volt.
