General Motors has recalled 107,000 older Pontiac and Saturn models due to the risk of a faulty sensor disabling the front passenger seat's air bag.

The recall covers 2006-2010 Pontiac Solstice, and 2007-2010 Saturn Sky models. Neither cars or brands are made by the automaker anymore.

According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration documents, GM acknowledges that its Passenger Air Bag Suppression System could "become bent or damaged" within the front seat, which could disable the air bag altogether.

"To satisfy FMVSS 208 airbag suppression requirements, these vehicles are equipped with a passenger airbag suppression system  that is designed to determine whether the passenger seat is occupied by a child and whether the front passenger airbag should be suppressed during a crash," the recall reads. "The PPS system uses a flexible sensor mat inside the passenger seat.

"Occupant pressure on the seat in the same location can, over time, bend and damage the sensor's printed conductor. In severe cases, this damage can cause an open circuit in the sensor."

The Associated Press reports that GM is unaware of any crashers or injuries related to the issue. The recall was initiated after a person submitted a petition to the NHTSA seeking an investigation in the matter.
