The U.S. Supreme Court's decision Friday that a ban on gay marriage is unconstitutional was met with applause by FCA US.

DETROIT, MI - The U.S. Supreme Court's decision Friday that a ban on gay marriage is unconstitutional was met with applause by FCA US.

The Auburn Hills automaker, formerly known as Chrysler Group LLC, issued this statement shortly after the court's 5-4 ruling:

"FCA US has a longstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion, and respects the belief that everyone should be treated equally under the law and opposes any law that can result in discrimination. FCA US is a longtime supporter of  LGBT communities and issues and was among the first automakers to offer domestic partner benefits to its employees. We applaud today's U.S. Supreme Court decision."

Earlier this month, FCA US was a lead sponsor of the Motor City Pride weekend festivities celebrating lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender culture in Detroit.

The company had a specially wrapped a 2016 Fiat 500X to marshal the Motor City Pride parade, which included some 300 of Michigan's same-sex couple who were able to legally marry after a Detroit federal judge ruled Michigan's ban unconstitutional but before a 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issued a stay.
