DETROIT, MI - The 500,000th fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaro is expected to be delivered this month, General Motors announced Friday.

The fifth generation of the Camaro first went on sale in August 2009. The Camaro then passed the Ford Mustang in 2010 to become the best-selling performance car in the U.S., according to GM.
Last year, sales of the Camaro rose 7.1 percent on an annual basis to 86,297 units. A full year-by-year breakdown of the fifth-gen Camaro's sales performance is below. In the first two months of 2015, sales are up 3.6 percent over 2014.
Chevrolet's iconic muscle car dates back to 1966. Now in the final year of generation five, the 2015 Chevrolet Camaro comes in a wide range of models, including the 323-horsepower V-6-powered LS coupe and LT coupe and convertible; the 426-hp, V-8 Camaro SS coupe and convertible; the 580-hp, supercharged Camaro ZL1 coupe and convertible and the track-ready Camaro Z/28.
"The fifth-generation Camaro has clearly resonated with both long-time Camaro fans, and first time performance-car buyers," Todd Christensen, Camaro marketing manager, said in a release. "That sets the bar high for the next chapter of the car's history."
