Honda Motor Co. said Wednesday a newly designed and re-engineered Pilot SUV will make its global debut Feb. 12 at the Chicago Auto Show.

DETROIT, MI - Honda Motor Co. said Wednesday a newly designed and re-engineered Pilot SUV will make its global debut Feb. 12 at the Chicago Auto Show

The eight-passenger SUV, which will be a third-generation Pilot, was designed, developed and built in the U.S.

"Honda continues to fortify its light-truck lineup in 2015, this time turning our eye to the fast-growing family SUV segment," Jeff Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of the Honda Division, said in a release. "The new Pilot will raise the bar in a segment it helped to create, with more innovation, style, premium features and family utility than ever before."

The Pilot will be positioned above Honda's CR-V SUV and its recently launched HR-V subcompact SUV, which hits dealerships this spring. Honda first launched the Pilot in 2002. It's designed and developed at Honda sites in California and Ohio, and it's built at a plant in Lincoln, Ala.

Also in Chicago, the company said it will release details on a new Ridgeline truck, which the Japanese automaker said will cue its styling direction for this all-important segment in the U.S.

And Honda's Acura luxury division plans to release a new, 2016 Acura RDX compact SUV Feb. 12 at the Chicago Auto Show. The V6-powered 2016 Acura RDX will have new styling, along with new luxury and safety features, Honda said Wednesday.

Honda's light-truck sales in the U.S. grew just 1.5 percent year-over-year to 702,351 units in 2014. Industry-wide, light truck sales in the U.S. last year were up 10.0 percent to 8.6 million units.
