DETROIT, MI - Ford Motor Co. has unveiled its all-new, 2016 Explorer SUV.

Ford allowed the media to get a first look at the latest incarnation of its 25-year-old sport ute at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show, which has press days Nov. 18-20.

"Explorer helped define how the world thinks about SUVs," Raj Nair, Ford group vice president and chief technical officer, Global Product Development, said in a statement. "Explorer is the centerpiece of Ford's global utility vehicle lineup because it delivers an ideal combination of form and function. And with 7 million already sold, nearly everyone has an Explorer story."

The Explorer, first introduced in 1991, is being built at Ford's Chicago Assembly Plant and at sites in Venezuela and Russia.

Ford said it expects to export 56,000 Explorers from the U.S. in 2014. The Dearborn automaker sells the SUV in more than 100 markets throughout the world.

"Customers love Explorer, and expect this SUV to lead the way in innovation, performance and fun," added Arie Groeneveld, chief engineer for the new Explorer. "It's a tall order, but we're aiming to build the best SUV in the world."
