Chevrolet designers and Walt Disney Co. imagineers have are nearly done with their 18-month process of redesigning the former GM Test Track at Walt Disney World Resort's Epcot theme park in Florida.
DETROIT, MI- Chevrolet designers and Walt Disney Co. imagineers are close to completing their 18-month process of redesigning the former GM Test Track at Walt Disney World Resort’s Epcot theme park in Florida.
The redesigned thrill ride -- now presented by Chevrolet and simply called Test Track – offers a unique experience that gives an authentic, inside-the-studio look at the actual automotive design process and a fun ride, according to officials.
“It’s a thrilling attraction supported by rich exhibit displays and interactive elements that bring guests directly into the design process – with a few surprises thrown in,” said Eric Jacobson, senior vice president of Walt Disney Imagineering.
Officials made the Test Track – set to open Dec. 6 – into a multifaceted experience with experiences before and after the ride.
First, guests will have the opportunity to design their own vehicle with some helpful hints from the Chevrolet designers built into the process.
Next, they will have the chance to test drive their vehicle design, through the ride and on track surfaces that simulate the actual vehicle validation process that Chevrolet engineers use. Each guest’s vehicle design will be evaluated and scored based on how well their design balanced the core attributes.
And finally, guests can race their vehicle over changing terrain and extreme conditions on a digital driving table, produce and share a TV commercial starring their custom vehicle and pose for action shots in front of their design.
Other elements integrated into the futuristic experience include social media, GM’s EN-V and Miray vehicles, as well as an array of technological advancements.
Officials with GM and Disney are expected to discuss the redesigned Test Track with media in more detail Friday afternoon.
