LANSING, MI -- The Capital City is making a new car.

The GM Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant showed off the Cadillac ATS Coup on display Thursday for Lansing media.

The ATS Coupe is an all new model for GM -- and the first compact luxury coupe for Cadillac. It will go in production and on sale this summer.

"For the son of a GM, UAW employee, there is no more exciting thing than the unveiling of a new model," said Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero. "It always puts a chill up my spine to be here and see this beautiful, beautiful vehicle."

The coupe joins other cars made in Lansing, including the ATS sedan, the CTS sedan, the CTS Coupe, the CTS wagon, the CTS V Series for Coup and Wagon.

The CTS was named the 2014 Motor Trend Car of the Year.

The ATS Coupe has the new Cadillac logo. It will be available with all-wheel or rear-wheel drive, a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder or a 3.6L six cylinder engine.

Along with the presentation, the GM Foundation donated $50,000 to the Capital Area United Way.
