FLINT, MI – General Motors will unveil its highly anticipated next-generation 2015 Heavy Duty Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks at the Flint Assembly Plant – the location where a large quantity of the trucks will be manufactured – at 3100 Van Slyke Rd. on Thursday, Sept. 26.

The Flint unveiling will occur at the same time that the trucks are revealed at an event in Texas, where the vehicles have historically sold more units than in any other state.

In order to accommodate for the production of the new line at Flint Assembly, GM made a $328 million investment into the facility in 2011, equipping the plant with new machinery for the new builds.

The facility currently produces the heavy-duty Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra crew and regular cab trucks, as well as the light-duty Chevrolet Silverado crew and regular cab trucks.

In 2012, the Silverado pickup truck was Chevrolet’s top seller with 418,312 units sold, while the Sierra sold 157,185 units.

The plant – located at 3100 Van Slyke Rd. – employs 2,576 hourly and 245 salary employees.

GM spokesman Tom Wickham said that Flint Mayor Dayne Walling, President and CEO of the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce Tim Herman and GM Manufacturing Manager Larry Zahner will all be in attendance for the unveiling.
