DETROIT- When thinking about “family cars,” the first thing to probably pop into most peoples’ minds are minivans.

However, that’s not necessarily true anymore, according to Kelley Blue Book.

Editors of the automotive vehicle valuation and information company have released their “10 Best Family Cars of 2013” and only one, the Honda Odyssey, is a minivan.

The annual list, according to KBB, is catered to unique family specifications and situations.

“Show us 10 families and we'll suggest a different car for each, but all of those vehicles will score high in areas like safety, roominess, comfort and value,” said Jack R. Nerad, executive editorial director and executive market analyst for Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com, in a statement.

Of the 10 vehicles on the list, only two vehicles automakers – the Ford Fusion and Chevrolet Suburban -- were from the Detroit automakers. Chrysler Group LLC, which invented the minivan, did not make the list. The Fusion ranked seventh. The Suburban ranked 10th.

The average transaction price, or average price paid for the vehicle, for all the vehicles on the list is about $30,700. The most-expensive transaction price, according to KBB, is the Suburban at $51,599. The least-expensive is the Honda Accord at $24,893.

With three vehicles on the list, Honda Motor Co. had the most family-recommended vehicles, but Nissan's Pathfinder topped KBB's list.
