2013 Detroit auto show: Top 10 headlines include Chevy Corvette, must-see vehicles

DETROIT, MI- Hundreds of thousands of people attended the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

If you weren’t one of them, or just want to re-live some of the hottest news, we have you covered. Below are the top 10 MLive.com headlines/topics from the 2013 Detroit auto show, which concluded Sunday.

10. Detroit auto show: Introducing Tesla's electric SUV with 'falcon wings': Building off momentum of its four-door, all-electric Model S sports sedan that took home several awards and accolades in 2012, Tesla Motors introduced the auto world to the Model X, an all-wheel drive, all-electric SUV with falcon-wing doors at the auto show.

9. Detroit auto show: Jeep updates three models, including best-selling Grand Cherokee: Chrysler Group LLC showcased an updated version of its best-selling Jeep Grand Cherokee at the show, as well as well as an updated SRT Grand Cherokee, Patriot and Compass.

8. Guide to the 2013 Detroit auto show: Simple, yet extremely important. The guide provided attendees of the show with everything they’d want to know about this year’s show, including parking, dates, times and even the cost of the People Mover.

7. Detroit auto show: Ford reminds industry who is 'America's truck leader' with Atlas concept: The Atlas, a full-size pickup truck built on one of Ford’s current full-size pickup frames, showcases the design, capability, fuel efficiency and smart technologies that will define its future pickup trucks. Ford did not release when its next-generation F-Series is expected to debut, but officials expect it to be a 2015 model.

6. 2013 Detroit auto show: More than 50 unveilings scheduled: Officials say 59 vehicles were unveiled at this year’s Detroit auto show, which is 16 more than the 2012 show. Last year’s show featured 42 vehicle introductions, including 38 worldwide debuts -- 12 concept vehicles and 26 production models.

5. Detroit auto show: Top 5 highlights of day two: We don’t know what was wrong with the day one highlights, but MLive.com users appear to have been more interested in the day two highlights. Why? Our guesses are the Ford Atlas concept and the electrifying Cadillac ELR from GM may have enticed a few people to seek the day two highlights.

4.Detroit auto show: Top 10 stories to drive the 2013 North American International Auto Show: Judging by the popularity of most of the articles, I’d say we weren’t too far off regarding what topics would drive this year’s show. Corvette, as expected, topped the list, and so did pickup trucks, which are expected to continue to cause a stir in the auto industry.

3.Sirens of Chrome: Turning 'eye candy' models into product specialists: The “eye candy” headline drew you in, but the information made you stay. Once thought of as “eye candy” to go along with the vehicles, product specialists have evolved from standing and smiling to become a major part of the show. The product specialists go through extensive training for each brand and vehicle they represent.

2. Must-see vehicles: Overall, we had three articles about must-see vehicles at the show and all of them were in the top 20. Each had its unique angle, but the "2013 Detroit auto show: Top 10 must-see vehicles" drove in more people to the site than the other two combined. 1. 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray: As we said before the show, the two-seat American icon was expected to be the Belle of the Ball at this year’s auto show. Overall, six of the top 10 headlines on MLive.com for the auto show were about the Corvette. What was the most-popular one? The “Live video: GM reveals 2014 Chevy Corvette before Detroit auto show.”

The 2013 Detroit auto show was open to the public from Jan. 19-27. About 60 vehicles debuted from the world’s top automakers during the show’s press preview days Jan. 14 and 15.
