Detroit Russell Center unveiling:- The Stingray, or “Sting Ray” from 1963-67, has only been used on two other generations of production Corvettes in the vehicle’s 60-year history.
- Stingray was last used four generations ago on the Detroit-based automaker’s generation 3 Corvette from 1968-82. The name was first used on the 1959 racing car and again for the second-generation Corvette from 1963-67.
- The small-block V-8 has been the standard engine in the Corvette for 57 of its 60 years.
- 2014 Corvette Stingray is the most powerful standard model ever, with an estimated 450 horsepower (335 kW) and 450 lb.-ft. of torque (610 Nm). Also, the quickest standard Corvette ever, with estimated 0-60 performance of less than four seconds.
- The 2014 Stingray features an all-new small-block, LT1 6.2-liter V8 engine that features direct injection, Active Fuel Management, continuously variable valve timing and an advanced combustion system that delivers more power while using less fuel.
- The all-new Corvette Stingray only shares two parts with the previous generation Corvette. It incorporates an all-new frame structure and chassis, a new powertrain and supporting technologies, as well as completely new exterior and interior designs.
- The 2014 Stingray is the most fuel-efficient Corvette ever, exceeding the 2013 EPA-estimated 26 miles per gallon on the highway.
- The vehicle, also known as the C7, was unveiled Sunday night at the Russell Industrial Center in Detroit as a prelude to the 2013 North American International Auto Show.
