The 2018 Dodge Durango will come with enough space for the entire family with three rows and six seats, but the 4.4 second to 60 mph is an eye-catching addition.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, of Auburn Hills, Michigan, will first show the new SUV Thursday, Feb. 9 at the Chicago Auto Show. FCA touts the new 475 horsepower Durango as the fastest in its class, as it sports the classic 392-cubic-inch HEMI V8 engine and 470-pounds of torque.
Last year's Durango churned out 295 horsepower and a 0-60 mph time of 7.4 seconds. The 2018 Dodge Durango will hit showrooms sometime in 2017's fourth quarter, according to the automaker.

"The new 2018 Dodge Durango SRT is America's fastest, most powerful and most capable three-row SUV," Tim Kuniskis, FCA North America Head of Passenger Cars Brands, said in a news release. "This is what you get, when you take everything great about the Durango and combine it with the performance of the Charger SRT: a 12-second quarter mile, toy-hauling, three-row muscle car."
To stop the Durango, Dodge added six-piston front, four-piston rear Brembo brakes with 15- and 13.8-inch rotors.
Exterior changes to the 2018 model include a wider body and functional SRT hood that give the three-row SUV a muscle car feel to it. A new exhaust system drives home the muscle car aura, as its 4-inch dual tips are finished in chrome.
On the inside, the Durango has a new TorqueFlite eight-speed auto transmission, standard T-shifter and an SRT seven-mode drive system.
The seven drive modes include auto, sport, track, snow, tow, valet and ECO, Dodge reports in the release. Sport mode is said to reduce shifts by 50 percent when compared to auto mode, and it delivers 65 percent of the engine's torque to the rear wheels. Track mode sends 70 percent of the torque to the rear wheels.
The 2018 Durango, like its predecessors, will be built at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit.
