DETROIT, MI- Following a diesel-filled lineup in Los Angeles, Audi is coming to Detroit with speed, and the top down.

Audi of America has confirmed that the 2014 Audi RS 5 Cabriolet and re-freshened 2014 Audi R8 lineup will debut later this month at the 2013 North American international Auto Show in Detroit.

“Coming off the momentum we’ve built with the launch of the all-new Audi S models, the new Audi R8 and RS 5 Cabriolet further invigorate the next chapter of our Audi performance models,” said Scott Keogh, Audi of America president, in a statement.

The R8 is the pinnacle of the Audi model lineup that includes three different high-performance engine variants: the R8 V8, the R8 V10 and the R8 V10 Plus (see embedded photo gallery).

The high-performance sports car is now more dynamic and powerful, officials say, thanks to numerous improvements, including a newly developed seven-speed S tronic transmission that helped improve the 0-60 mph time by 0.3 seconds on the R8 V10 Plus.

The new seven-speed S tronic double-clutch transmission significantly boosts the performance of the Audi R8.

The RS 5 Cabriolet is powered by a high-revving, naturally aspirated V8 engine with FSI direct injection. Its 4.2 liter engine outputs 450 horsepower at 8,250 rpm and produces a maximum torque of 317 lb.-ft. between 4,000 and 6,000 rpm.

The Audi vehicles are a few of more than 50 vehicles expected to make their world or North American debuts at the 2013 NAIAS.

The 2013 NAIAS is open to the public from Jan. 19-27. More than 40 unveilings from the world’s top automakers are expected during the show’s press preview days Jan. 14 and 15, followed by industry days Jan. 16 and 17. The charity preview, which raised $3 million last year, is Jan. 18.
