2013 Detroit auto show: Mercedes-Benz to debut two 'dream cars'

Mercedes-Benz will debut restyled models of its popular E-Class series at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

DETROIT, MI- Mercedes-Benz will debut restyled models of its popular E-Class series at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The restyled 2014MY E-Class Coupe & Cabriolet will make their global debut at the show later this month, the luxury automaker announced Friday.

The classic Coupe and the four-seat Cabriolet versions of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, according to officials, bold styling and new assistance systems which are part of Mercedes-Benz "intelligent drive."

"Three words suffice to very briefly characterize the Coupe and the four-seater Cabriolet: stunning, athletic, passionate. Especially gratifying is that both cars also offer the most intelligent engineering that currently can be had,” said Joachim Schmidt, Mercedes-Benz Cars executive vice president sales and marketing, in a statement. “This makes both of them genuine dream cars."

The new systems include technology that can help prevent accidents with crossing vehicles or pedestrians as well as an enhanced version of its “Active Lane Keeping Assist.”

All the available engines for the Coupe and Cabriolet now feature an ECO start/stop system. The E350 features a direct injection V6 gasoline engine with 302-horsepower and 273-lb ft. of torque. The E550 is powered by a twin-turbo direct-injection V8 producing 402-horsepower and 443-lb ft. of torque.

The 2014MY E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet are two of more than 50 vehicles expected to make their debuts at the NAIAS 2013.

The 2013 NAIAS is open to the public from Jan. 19-27. More than 40 unveilings from the world’s top automakers are expected during the show’s press preview days Jan. 14 and 15, followed by industry days Jan. 16 and 17. The charity preview, which raised $3 million last year, is Jan. 18.
