Toyota agrees to $3.4 billion settlement in rusted trucks lawsuit

Toyota Motor Corp. has agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit in the US. that alleges the frames could rust through on some 1.5 million trucks from the 2005-2010 model years

DETROIT - Toyota Motor Corp. has agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit in the US. that alleges the frames could rust through on some 1.5 million trucks from the 2005-2010 model years, Reuters reports. 

The settlement estimates the total cost to replace the trucks' frames at $3.375 billion. Toyota has admitted no liability or wrongdoing in the proposed settlement, which was filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles.

The proposed settlement covers Tacoma trucks from the 2005-2010 model years, Tundras from 2007 and 2008 and Sequoia SUVs from 2005-2008. As part of the settlement, Toyota will inspect affected trucks for 12 years from the day they were first sold or leased.
