General Motors' turbo-diesel V-8 engine is getting its most powerful update ever, the Detroit automaker said Thursday.
ROMULUS, Mich. - General Motors' turbo-diesel V-8 engine is getting its most powerful update ever, the Detroit automaker said Thursday.
The new 6.6-liter, V-8 Duramax turbo-diesel engine for the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD full-size pickup trucks produces an SAE-certified 445 horsepower and 910 lb.-ft. of torque. That compares to 397 horsepower and 765 lb.-ft. of torque in the outgoing, 2016 models.
GM's new diesel V-8 made its debut at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas.
"With nearly 2 million sold over the past 15 years, customers have forged a bond with the Duramax diesel based on trust and capability," Dan Nicholson, vice president fo GM's global propulsion systems, said in a release. "The new Duramax takes those traits to higher levels."
