Ford Motor Co. said Friday it received 6,506 fully completed applications in the one-month window open to apply to own the all-new supercar.

DETROIT, MI - Ford Motor Co. said Friday it received 6,506 fully completed applications in the one-month window open to apply to own the all-new GT supercar.

The Dearborn automaker is only going to produce 250 Ford GTs a year, so only a fraction of the applicants will actually get their hands on one. Initial ordering will cover the 500 vehicles slated for production in the first two years.

Ford said in a release that many of the applicants got creative with their pitches, using lighting affects, revving engines, racing footage and garage tours to show why they should be selected as a Ford GT owner.

Ford said it is now reviewing the applications and will begin notifying potential owners in the next 90 days.

The potential owners are prepared to pay handsomely for car, which was first unveiled at the Detroit auto show in January 2015.

The Ford GT will be priced in the mid $400,000s, before delivery fees and taxes.

The supercar is getting a new, twin-turbo, 3.5L EcoBoost V6 from Ford that will produce more than 600 horsepower. Eight exterior colors are available with seven different striped colors.

The rear-wheel drive, mid-engine GT is being made with carbon fiber, aluminum and other lightweight materials. Ford's aim for aerodynamics is obvious in the design of the GT, with what Ford describes as an "optimum tear-drop shape" and an "aircraft-inspired fuselage."

While the one-month window to actually order the GT has closed, fans can still visit the www.FordGT.com website, where they can virtually build the GT of their dreams. Ford said about 200,000 fans in the U.S. have visited since it went live.

"We're excited by the amount of enthusiasm fans are showing for the new Ford GT," Dave Pericak, director of Global Ford Performance, said in a release. "This initial application window is just one of many ways fans and potential owners will have to connect with our all-new supercar even before it hits the streets."
