It is one of just 10 Dodge Stratus models to be equipped with a customization job from RM Motorsports, the Wixom-based company responsible for the design and fabrication of the Dodge Tomahawk motorcycle.
Freaks for sale features unique, interesting and bizarre vehicles for sale in Michigan.
Just as any dealership would, Szott M-59 Chrysler Jeep has several of its newest cars and trucks on display along Highland Road in White Lake.
New Jeeps. New Chryslers. And then, in the middle of it all on a cement pedestal: A car that appears to be neither new, nor commonplace.
What it is: A 2004 Dodge Stratus R/T with a nitrous-oxide booster system and a $10,000 paint job.
Why it's a freak: Well, aside from being an otherwise mild-mannered sedan with a nitrous system, it is one of just 10 Strati to be equipped with a customization job from RM Motorsports, the Wixom-based company responsible for the design and fabrication of the Dodge Tomahawk motorcycle, said M-59 Szott dealership manager Joanne Hubbard, who owns the car.
Hubbard bought it brand-new from Dodge in 2004.
"Basically they did 10 of these cars and they sent them to the top 10 Dodge-selling dealers that year," Hubbard said.
After her dealership displayed it a first time, Dodge was going to sell the car at auction in Flint, but Hubbard decided to buy it. Now, with just 6,900 miles on it, she's decided to put it up for sale.
The dual, 15-pound bottles of nitrous oxide in the trunk add bursts of 50 horsepower with the flick of a switch.
When the nitrous is activated, flame bursts are supposed to come out of the nostrils of the ram painted on the hood. The paint job alone was about $10,000, according to the dealership.
It was one of the Dodge Stratus models chosen for the custom job by RM Motorsports because it's a rare, manual transmission model, Hubbard said.
Under the hood is the stock 2.7-liter, DOHC 24-valve V-6 engine. The car also has Recaro seats and a Mopar gauge set.
Asking price: $22,499
