DETROIT, MI - If you are an habitual lawbreaker who's accustomed to spotting police vehicles by their top-mounted lights, Ford Motor Co. has some bad news for you.
The Dearborn automaker said this week it's launching factory-installed, stealth interior visor-light bars on its police interceptor utilities, making them blend more readily into the civilian vehicle population.
The low-profile unit is integrated into the area where the headline and the windshield meet.
The light bars can be programmed to flash alternating red and blue bars, or red/red and blue/blue combinations. They also have bright white "take down" and "scene" flashing lights, and can be adjusted for intensity, Ford said.
The company is taking orders from agencies for the lights now for its 2017 Police Interceptor Utility.
The latest-generation Ford Police Interceptor Utility was revealed a little over a year ago with the help of a police dog in Chicago:
