The Dearborn company sold 1,115,124 vehicles there last year, an annual rise of 3 percent and an all-time record for volume.

DETROIT, MI - For the U.S. auto industry, 2015 was a year that records were toppled, as total sales of new cars and trucks hit unprecedented levels.

The same is true for Ford Motor Co. in China, as the Dearborn company sold 1,115,124 vehicles there last year, an annual rise of 3 percent and an all-time record for volume.

Like in the U.S., sales of SUVs were especially strong, with the Ford Ecosport, Kuga, Edge, Explorer and Everest models up 14 percent year-over-year as they passed the quarter-million mark for the first time, with 274,188 units sold.

"2015 was another strong year for Ford in China with growth in sales and our product portfolio," John Lawler, chairman and CEO of Ford Motor China, said in a release. "Our record performance sets the stage for 2016, as we continue to expand our portfolio of high-quality, fuel-efficient and fun-to-drive vehicles that our customers want and need."
