DETROIT MI - Ford Motor Co. announced Monday it is recalling some 450,000 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan sedans from the 2010-2011 model years for a potential fuel tank issue.
The Dearborn automaker said some of the cars could have a canister purge valve that does not work properly, which could result in pressure changes in the fuel tank. Those pressure changes could lead to a crack at the top of the tank, and then possibly cause a fuel leak, which would be a potential fire hazard.
Ford said it is not aware of any accidents, injuries or fires related to the issue.
The affected cars were built at Ford's Hermosillo Assembly Plant from July 21, 2008 through March 4, 2011.
Dealers will inspect the potential issue and, if necessary, fix it free of charge.
Ford also announced Monday it is recalling 13 F-650 trucks from the 2016 model year for a steering column issue. The company said the affected trucks were built with a steering column that uses a "park" position mechanism in automatic transmission, and that mechanism could fracture if the vehicle is on a steep grade with a heavy load.
The affected F-650s were built at Ford's Ohio Assembly Plant from July 29, 2015 through Sept. 3, 2015. Dealers will replace the part for free.
