General Motors on Thursday posted a 13 percent year-over-year increase in total deliveries to 251,310 units
DETROIT, MI - General Motors on Thursday posted a 13 percent year-over-year increase in total deliveries to 251,310 units for September. The gain was driven by a strong, 17 percent rise in retail sales to 203,895 cars and trucks sold.
GM said it marked its sixth straight month of growing its market share.
Every brand reported growth in total deliveries on the month, led by a 24 percent rise for GMC. Cadillac was the only brand to post a decline in retail sales, albeit a modest drop of 2 percent.
Like other automakers, the Detroit company benefited from a later Labor Day selling period, although overall industry sales have also been strong.
"The U.S. is adding jobs, disposable income is rising, energy prices and interest rates remain low and business continues to invest, but the fact remains this has been a slow recovery," Mustafa Mohatarem, GM's chief economist, said in a release. "The economy still has room to grow and so do auto sales, particularly now that the Millennials are entering the workforce and starting households."
