There will be but one transmission offering on the Ford Shelby GT350 and GT350R Mustang: A Tremec six-speed manual.

DETROIT, MI - There will be but one transmission offering on the Ford Shelby GT350 and GT350R Mustang: A Tremec six-speed manual.

Ford Motor Co. said Tuesday the transmission for what the company calls its street-legal, all-day track car has high-rpm capability at the forefront.

The transmission is made to cope with high speeds and give precision engagement, smoothness and reduction in weight, the company said. Full details can be found here.

The Shelby GT350 Mustang comes equipped with a 5.2-liter, flat-plane crankshaft V-8 engine that gets 526 horsepower and 429 lb.-ft. of torque.

"Any transmission backing this engine requires a certain amount of high-power, high-rpm capability," Jeff Albers, powertrain engineering supervisor with Ford, said in a release.

The first Shelby GT350 rolled off the line at Ford's Flat Rock Assembly plant last week.

The Dearborn automaker said it plans to build just 100 Shelby GT350 Mustangs and only 37 Shelby GT350R Mustangs for the 2015 model year. Company officials said earlier this year the production number for 2016 will be released soon.

The limited supply of 2015 Shelby GT350 and GT350R Mustangs are set to hit dealerships this fall.
