The head of a union representing Toledo auto workers who build the Jeep Wrangler said Wednesday that that production, seen by some as in jeopardy, is "ours to lose," according to an AP report.

DETROIT, MI - The head of a union representing Toledo auto workers who build the Jeep Wrangler said Wednesday that that production, seen by some as in jeopardy, is "ours to lose," according to a report in the Associated Press

In October, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne said at the Paris Motor Show that the iconic Jeep Wrangler may no longer be built in the Ohio city where it has been built for more than 70 years.

Marchionne said at the time that the 2017 model-year Wrangler could be made out of aluminum to meet fuel-efficiency standards, and that the Toledo facility may not be able to accommodate such production. There is, however, capacity and capability at Chrysler's plant in Sterling Heights, as well as at a site in Belvidere, Ill.

But on Wednesday UAW Local 12 President Bruce Baumhower said he's confident Wrangler production will stay in Toledo, according to the AP. He said he expects a decision from FCA within weeks.
