Chevrolet will introduce an updated 2016 Equinox on February 12 at the Chicago Auto Show. DETROIT, MI - Chevrolet plans to debut a refreshed version of its Equinox crossover on Thursday at the Chicago Auto Show.
The new Equinox will be unveiled just a few weeks after General Motors announced the model's sales rose a respectable 34 percent year-over-year in the U.S. in January, selling 19,555 units.
Sales of the Equinox were up only slightly for all of 2014, but with 242,242 units sold, it accounted for about 9 percent of the rapidly growing compact SUV segment in the U.S.
"In one of the industry's most competitive segments, the Equinox continues to win customers with its value-driven balance of performance, versatility and personal connectivity," GM North America President Alan Batey said in a release. "It also represents the depth of Chevrolet's strong SUV lineup, ranging from the all-new Trax small SUV and Traverse to the redesigned 2015 Suburban and Tahoe."
For other domestic automakers, Ford Motor Co. plans to debut a new Police Interceptor, and FCA US' Ram brand is rumored to have a new model planned for the show as well.
Kia plans to unveil an electric, all-wheel-drive concept vehicle there, and Honda will debut a newly designed and re-engineered Pilot SUV. Honda's luxury brand, Acura, will also unveil a 2016 RDX compact SUV at the show.
Press preview days of the Chicago Auto Show are Feb. 12 and 13. The show, at McCormick Place, is open to the public Feb. 14-22.
