Add Ford and Lincoln to the list of auto brands sitting out Super Bowl XLIX, at least in terms of advertising during the commercials.

DETROIT, MI - Add Ford and Lincoln to the list of auto brands sitting out Super Bowl XLIX, at least in terms of advertising during the commercials.

A Ford Motor Co. spokeswoman confirmed Tuesday the two brands will join virtually every General Motors brand in deciding not to advertise during the NFL's Big Game, which will feature the New England Patriots against the Seattle Seahawks on Feb. 1 at 6:30 p.m. in Glendale, Ariz.

While GM brands may not have a presence during the commercials, Chevrolet, however, will sponsor the Most Valuable Player of the Game, and award the winner a new Colorado pickup, according to the Detroit News.

NBC is charging a handsome $4.5 million for just a 30-second spot during this year's game, according to Variety. That represents about a 12.5 percent rise over the price of ads charged by Fox for last year's Super Bowl.

Several foreign automakers plan to buy big-ticket air time during the Super Bowl, including BMW, Kia, Nissan, Toyota, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz.
