The show opened with its media preview Monday where automakers typically unveil new models and break industry news. Media from around the world attend the show, which is one of the most important auto events of any given year.
The first news of the day was the North American Car and Truck of the Year award, which were won by the Volkswagon Golf and the Ford F-150.
GM made the first splash, unveiling the electric 2016 Chevy Volt and the all-electric Chevy Bolt concept, which reportedly has a range of 200 miles.
Chrysler also rolled out its 4C Spider to the media and Nissan showed off the 2016 Titan pickup truck it hopes will crack the Big Three's dominance over the truck market.
Ford brought the media to Joe Louis arena for its unveiling, which included a new GT super car.
