JCI's Meadowbrook plant in Holland will supply advanced batteries for 2015 Hybrid Range Rover

Production of the cells and complete battery systems for the new Range Rover is underway at Johnson Controls' manufacturing facility in Holland, according to JCI.

MILWAUKEE, WI – Johnson Controls Power Solutions announced its Meadowbrook manufacturing plant in Holland will be supplying advanced lithium-ion batteries for the 2015 Hybrid Range Rover .

"As the first company in the world to produce lithium-ion batteries for mass production hybrid vehicles, we are excited to work with Jaguar Land Rover," said Lisa Bahash, vice president and general manager of the Original Equipment Group for Johnson Controls Power Solutions.

The Hybrid Range Rover vehicles are being made at Land Rover's advanced manufacturing center in Solihull, England, according to a Thursday, Dec. 18 news release by Johnson Controls, which bills itself as the world's leading manufacturer of automotive batteries.

Production of the cells and complete battery systems is underway at Johnson Controls' manufacturing facility in Holland, the announcement said.

The 41,000-square-foot Holland plant, which also supplies batteries for Mercedes Benz Odyne PHEV Heavy Duty vehicles and General Motors’ hybrid fleet vehicles, began operations four years ago.

President Barack Obama visited the plant in August 2011 to promote his economic stimulus programs, which helped finance the $220 million plant.

The JCI facility is one of two high-tech facilities making lithium-ion batteries for the auto industry in Holland.

Korean-based LG Chem also operates a plant that makes lithium-ion batteries for the Chevrolet Volt and new Cadillac ELR.
