The company said the name-change better aligns the Auburn Hills firm with its parent company, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V., also known as FCA.
DETROIT, MI – Chrysler Group LLC announced Tuesday that it has officially changed its name to FCA US LLC.
The company said the name-change better aligns the Auburn Hills firm with its parent company, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V., also known as FCA.
The changed moniker has no effect on the location of the company's headquarters in Auburn Hills, nor on its operations, staff or brands there, FCA noted.
In October, Italian automaker Fiat SpA completed its merger into Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. Fiat shareholders approved the merger with Chrysler Aug. 1, effectively ending Fiat's 115-year history in Italy while paving the way for Fiat and Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne to list the company on the New York Stock Exchange under the "FCAU" ticker.
The resulting parent company is headquartered in London but incorporated in the Netherlands.
Fiat first bought a 16-percent stake in Chrysler during the auto bailouts in 2008 and 2009. Chrysler became a wholly owned subsidiary of Fiat in January after a $4.35 billion deal with the United Auto Workers union trust fund, which owned 41.5 percent of the Auburn Hills automaker.
FCA US has more than 77,000 employees throughout the globe, 96 percent of whom are based in North America. The company operates manufacturing 36 sites, including 23 in the U.S., six in Canada and seven in Mexico.
The automaker was founded in 1925 in Detroit by Walter P. Chrysler, a stalwart figure in the industry at the time who had previously run Buick for General Motors.
