DETROIT, MI- Chrysler Group LLC will announce new investments and jobs Thursday at one of its Detroit facilities.

A Chrysler spokeswoman would not comment on the details of the announcement, but the Detroit Free Press reports the Auburn Hills-based automaker invest $238 million in three Michigan plants and add about 1,250 jobs so it can ramp up production of its engines and pickups.

Chrysler Chairman and CEO Sergio Marchionne and Detroit Mayor Dave Bing will join employees, United Auto Workers representatives and public officials today at the automaker’s Mack I Engine Plant, where nearly 150 hourly employees makes V8 engines for the Ram 1500.

The largest investment -- $198 million -- will come at the Mack I plant, according to the newspaper. The other investments will reportedly be at the Warren Truck plant, where a third crew with about 1,000 workers will be added, and Trenton North engine plan, where the company will invest $40 million to install a flexible assembly line to produce Pentastar and Tigershark engines.

Others officials scheduled to attend the announcement include General Holiefield, vice president of UAW Chrysler Department and Bob Hollingsworth, Mack Engine Complex plant manager.

Last month, Chrysler sold 25,222 Ram pickups, up 20 percent from 21,037 during October 2011. Through the first 10 months of this year, the brand reported 238,815 pickups sold, up 20 percent from 199,010 units last year.

Chrysler has invested $4.5 billion since June 2009 in its facilities, according to Jodi Tinson, a company spokeswoman. The announcement today is expected to increase that total to more than $4.7 billion since the company emerged from a government-backed bankruptcy as part of the 2008-2009 auto bailout.
