DETROIT, MI - Chevrolet rolled out the Colorado ZR2 concept pickup that General Motors says showcases the off-road potential of its the mid-size truck.

Making its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show this week, the Colorado ZR2 has a stance that's four inches wider than the production Colorado Z71, and is lifted two inches.

"The design of the ZR2 concept is all about functionality," said Tony Johnson, Colorado marketing manager. "It is inspired by the needs for traversing rock-strewn trails, as well as the aesthetics of competition-style vehicles such as pre-runners – with all elements contributing to safe, sustainable off-road driving."

The ZR2 concept has Mono-tube coil-over shock absorbers by King, off-road tires mounted on custom 18-inch aluminum wheels and a matching spare wheel/tire assembly, with a quick-release handle, is mounted in the bed.

The 2015 production Colorado was introduced at the Los Angeles Auto Show last year. The new midsize pickup will start at $20,995, including $895 dealer freight charge, for a standard extended-cab model with a 200-horsepower 2.5-liter, four cylinder engine and six-speed manual transmission. Other models will start as high as roughly $35,000 when the vehicle arrives in dealerships this fall.
