DEARBORN, MI- Ford Motor Co. today reported a 6-percent decline in June U.S. sales compared to a year ago.
Sales for the Dearborn-based automaker, which sold 222,064 vehicles last month, would have declined even farther if it weren't for strong performances from its Focus compact, Fusion midsize sedan and Transit Connect.
"Both the Fusion and Transit Connect set records in June, continuing their sales momentum," said John Felice, Ford vice president of U.S. marketing, sales and service, in a statement. "F-Series again topped 60,000 sales and is tracking to our inventory plan with the lowest incentives among the major players in the segment."
Fusion sales totaled 27,064 vehicles last month – a best-ever June performance. Fusion retail sales are up 22 percent and 14 percent overall.
Ford's namesake brand was down 5.9 percent, while its luxury Lincoln brand declined 2.7 percent, as the new MKC begins to arrive in showrooms.
Halfway through the year, Ford's sales are down 1.8 percent compared to the same time a year ago to roughly 1.3 million cars and trucks sold.
Ford was at the bottom of the pack compared to its crosstown rivals in June. Chrysler earlier today reported a 9 percent increase, while GM reported a less than 1 percent increase compared to a year ago.
