The Jeep Grand Wagoneer will return in 2018, according to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. The vehicle, which ended production in the early-90s, was announced today during the automaker’s new five-year plan for Jeep, which also included discontinuing the Jeep Patriot and Compass for a new C-SUV in 2016.
DETROIT, MI- The Jeep Grand Wagoneer will return in 2018, according to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV.
The expected three-row vehicle, which ended production in the early-90s, was announced today during the automaker’s new five-year plan for Jeep.
Other major announcements included discontinuing the Jeep Patriot and Compass for a new C-SUV in 2016; launching the next-generation Wrangler and Grand Cherokee in 2017; and refreshing the new Renegade small SUV, Cherokee compact SUV and Grand Cherokee by mid-2017 (see chart).
Overall, Jeep’s localized vehicle portfolio will expand from five nameplates built in one country to six nameplates built in six countries, with a production target of 1.9 million vehicles by 2018 -- nearly double its 1-million sales goal in 2014.
Jeep recently announced plans to start localized production of Jeep vehicles in China. The announcement was made last month in conjunction with a joint-venture with Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., a Chinese automaker that Fiat and Chrysler officials signed a memorandum of understanding with in January 2013.
Executives for Fiat Chrysler – the merged company of Fiat SpA and Chrysler Group LLC– are expected to outline a five-year plan today for every brand in the company.
Fiat completed its acquisition of Chrysler on Jan. 21 after agreeing to pay $4.35 billion to the UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust, which owned 41.5 percent of Chrysler as part of the 2008-2009 auto bailout.
