The Ram Power Wagon is returning to the 2014 model-year with a new standard, more powerful engine.
AUBURN HILLS, MI- The Ram Power Wagon is returning to the 2014 model-year with a new standard, more powerful engine.
The heavy-duty, off-road pickup is powered by a standard 6.4-liter V8 Hemi engine capable of 410 horsepower and a peak torque rating of 429 lb.-ft. It will feature a payload of up to 1,490 pounds and towing capacity up to 10,810 pounds. The previous standard engine was a 5.7-liter V8 Hemi.
“The 2014 Ram Power Wagon fills a need for those who travel into extreme terrain for rescue or recreation, while delivering on-road civility and the towing capability expected from a heavy-duty truck,” said Reid Bigland, Ram Truck president and CEO.
The vehicle – based on the Ram 2500 Heavy Duty 4x4 Crew Cab – features a new frame, suspension and top-of-segment off-road technology and equipment.
When it arrives in dealerships later this quarter, it will be offered in three trim levels: Tradesman, SLT and Laramie. Each trim, according to Chrysler, features unique exterior treatments – ranging from grilles to exterior coloring. All models are bookended with chrome front and rear bumpers.
“It may look similar to a Ram 2500 Heavy Duty but under the skin is a unique story, giving the Power Wagon its best-in-class off-road pickup competence,” said Mike Cairns, Ram Truck engineering director.
Ordering recently opened. Starting pricing ranges from $45,690 for the Tradesman to $56,015 for the Laramie. The SLT starts at $49,145. All prices include a $1,195 destination charge.
New for 2014, all Ram Heavy Duty trucks incorporate a segment-exclusive front axle disconnect system. When conditions warrant, front drivetrain components are disconnected to reduce parasitic loss and improve overall efficiency. The system provides a gain in fuel efficiency of up to 1 mile per gallon.
The 2014 Ram Heavy Duty is built at the Saltillo Truck Assembly Plant in Coahuila, Mexico.
The Power Wagon nameplate was initially produced from 1945 through 1980. Chrysler originally resurrected the Power Wagon nameplate in 2005.
The 2014 Power Wagon will be on display during the 2014 New York International Auto Show, according to a Chrysler spokesman.
