DETROIT, MI- Chevrolet will be the sponsor of Manchester United’s first ever match in Michigan.
Officials declared the sponsorship in conjunction to the Aug. 2 match versus Real Madrid being officially announced Friday in Ann Arbor. The game will be held at the University of Michigan’s “Big House” in Ann Arbor.
Manchester United will wear Chevrolet-branded shirts during the match, which is part of the 2014 Guinness International Champions Cup. Chevrolet – also the presenting sponsor of the match – kicks off its seven-year shirt sponsorship with Manchester United on July 1.
“Chevrolet looks forward to welcoming Manchester United to our home state of Michigan while giving Manchester United fans around the world a chance to watch their favorite football club,” said Paul Edwards, U.S. vice president, Chevrolet marketing. “Chevrolet’s partnership with Manchester United is more than a shirt sponsorship; it’s about sharing the power of play and passion for this sport with fans around the world.
The match could break the record for the largest crowd ever for a football match in the U.S. The record was set during the 1984 Olympic Summer Games when 101,799 people watched France defeat Brazil 2-0 in the gold medal match at the Rose Bowl.
Exclusive presale tickets for the Manchester United versus Real Madrid will be available 8:30 a.m. Monday. Tickets sales to the public begin 8:30 a.m. April 10 through the Michigan Athletic Ticket Office. Ticket prices for the game start at $45.
