CHICAGO, IL- In futuristic fashion, Subaru unveiled its all-new Legacy today at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show.
The vehicle, which officials called a “flagship” sedan, features a sleeker body designed for a more coupe-like appearance, enhanced interior, new safety features and new front and rear facias.
Thomas J. Doll, Subaru of America president and chief operating officer, described the vehicle as the “more interesting purchase” in what can be a “pretty vanilla segment.”
Doll, before the vehicle was unveiled with the help of a three-dimensional printer, said the new Legacy has everything that the current model offers and takes it to another level.
“This new Legacy is the most stylish and technologically advanced ever,” Doll said. “It’s capable, stylish and sophisticated.”
The production vehicle is a bit less radical than a concept version the company unveiled at the 2013 LA Auto Show in November. The concept featured a large grille and smoother, yet sportier look. As with the current model, the standard all-wheel-drive-wheel vehicle -- scheduled to go on sale this summer -- will be offered with four- and six-cylinder BOXER engines, but new to the lineup is a continuously variable transmission for enhanced fuel economy.
The four-cylinder version is estimated at 26 miles per gallon in the city, 36 mpg highway and 30 mpg overall. The six-cylinder version is expected to achieve 26 mpg in the city, 36 mpg on the highway 23 combined mpg.
About a dozen vehicles are expected to debut during the Chicago Auto Show’s press and social media preview days Feb. 6-7. The show is open to the public from Feb. 8-17 at Chicago’s massive McCormick Place conference center.
Tickets to the show are $6 for senior citizens and children between 7-12 years old; $12 for adults; and free for children 6 and under. For more information on tickets, visit chicagoautoshow.com.
