DETROIT, MI- It’s “good to be bad,” according to Jaguar’s first-ever Super Bowl commercial.
The cinematic 60-second spot -- called “Rendezvous” -- features three well-known British actors discussing why Brits have long made the best villains in landmark films, combining intelligence with charm, restlessness with calm, and confidence.
British actors Ben Kingsley, Tom Hiddleston and Mark Strong appear in the ad, which was directed by Oscar-winning British director Tom Hooper and features Jaguar’s new F-Type Coupe.
"Super Bowl week is a major milestone for the Jaguar brand as we present our newest and fastest model, the F-Type Coupe, to millions of current and future potential customers," said Jeff Curry, Jaguar North America brand vice president, in a statement.
Jaguar published the ad (embedded below) Tuesday on YouTube. It is set to make its broadcast debut Sunday during the fourth quarter of Super Bowl XLVIII, according to the United Kingdom-based automaker.
The spot launches Jaguar’s "British Villains" campaign, which introduces the Jaguar F-Type Coupe -- on sale spring 2014 -- and features the campaign's unique hashtag, #GoodToBeBad. The automaker also recently launched the campaign's dedicated landing page, BritishVillains.com.
Super Bowl ads continue to become more important for automakers, as many spend millions on air time, commercial production and talent. A 30-second spot during this year's game reportedly averages $4 million, according to AdWeek and numerous advertising outlets.
In recent years, Chrysler Group LLC has made waves with its Super Bowl commercials that have included Eminem, Oprah Winfrey, Clint Eastwood and a photographic "Farmer" ad featuring Paul Harvey's "So God Made a Farmer" speech.
Super Bowl XLVIII versus the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks is scheduled to be broadcast starting at 6:30 p.m. on FOX.
