Two new versions of General Motors sleek and storied Chevrolet Corvette were unveiled Monday morning at the 2014 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit.

DETROIT, MI – Two new versions of General Motors' sleek and storied Chevrolet Corvette were unveiled Monday morning at the 2014 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit.

The all-new Chevrolet Racing Corvette, called the C7.R, and the 2015 Corvette Z06, both made their debut.

In a nod to classic sports car’s cult following, GM put a video livestream of the unveiling online for fans that were unable to make it to the Cobo Center. Attendees of the unveiling watched on a large screen as a Chevy Silverado pulled one of the Corvettes from a plant in Warren to the Cobo Center in downtown Detroit, followed by a caravan of some 40 Corvettes.

Chevy chief engineer Tadge Juechter said the Z06 "takes everything about the Stingray and takes into the next level."

GM expects production of the Z06 will begin this year, and plans to have it hit showrooms in 2015. It will come equipped with a 6.2 L engine, with more than 625 horse-power, 635 lb. of torque, as well as 7-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission.

The new C7.R Corvette race car will debut at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, Jan. 25-26. It is the seventh generaiton of racing Corvettes.

At the unveiling of the two new vehicles, General Motors President Dan Ammann said Chevrolet had another record year in 2013, with nearly 5 million vehicles sold.

The Detroit auto show will be open to the public from Jan. 18-26 at Cobo Center, One Washington Blvd., following Press Preview Jan. 13-14; Industry Preview Jan. 15-16; and the Charity Preview featuring musician Sheryl Crow on Jan. 17.

Automakers are expected to unveil more than 50 vehicles during the two-day Press Preview to start the 2014 NAIAS.

Tickets to the 2014 public show days are $7 for senior citizens and children between 7-12 years old; $13 for adults; and free for children 6 and under. Tickets for the black-tie Charity Preview are $350. For more information on tickets, visit naias.com.
