Overall, the Detroit Three combined for 544,784 vehicles in November, up 12 percent from a year ago. With one month to go until 2014, the three Detroit automakers have sold nearly 6.5 million vehicles, a 11 percent increase from the same time in 2012.

DETROIT, MI- Strong sales toward the end of November made for a cheerful start to the holiday season for the Detroit Three.

Led by Chrysler Group LLC, the Detroit automakers combined for a double-digit year-over-year sales gain in November thanks to robust retail sales.

“Chrysler beat out their domestic counterparts in November with a healthy 16 percent year-over-year gain in overall sales volume,” said Alec Gutierrez, senior analyst for Kelley Blue Book. “Chrysler saw a significant push from the Jeep portfolio, which has benefitted from both an ongoing surge in demand for small CUVs as well as a more recent uptick in demand for larger sport utility vehicles.”

Chrysler sold more than 142,000 vehicles last month, up from nearly 123,000 a year ago. The sales mark the Auburn Hills-based automaker's 44th-consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains.

GM wasn’t far behind Chrysler, with sales up 14 percent on strong performances across all of its brands. GMC led the way, up 19.8 percent, followed by Buick up 13.4 percent; Chevrolet up 12.6 percent; and Cadillac up 11.4 percent.
