Chrysler Group LLC continued to experience pre-recession sales levels in August. The Auburn Hills-based automaker Tuesday reported U.S. sales of 165,552 units, a 12 percent increase compared with sales in August 2012, and the group’s best August sales since 2007.
AUBURN HILLS, MI- Led by Ram Truck, Chrysler Group LLC continued to experience pre-recession sales levels in August.
The Auburn Hills-based automaker Wednesday reported U.S. sales of 165,552 units, a 12 percent increase compared with sales in August 2012, and the group’s best August sales since 2007.
“Last month we achieved our strongest retail sales in the past 60 months,” said Reid Bigland, head of U.S. sales, in a statement. “All aspects of our business continue to improve as evidenced by our streak of 41-consecutive months of year-over-year sales gains.”
Ram, as it has for the majority of the year, led the way with a 29 percent increase compared to last year. Dodge and Jeep were the only other brands to experiences double-digit increase, up 12 percent and 8 percent, respectively. Chrysler and Fiat brands both experienced sales increases of less than 2 percent compared to August 2012.
Overall, Chrysler had six models that set sales records in August. The Dodge Journey mid-size crossover, with a 12 percent increase, had its best sales month ever. In addition, the Dodge Challenger, Dodge Dart, Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Compass, and Jeep Patriot each recorded their best sales for the month of August.
Through August, Chrysler's U.S. vehicle sales are up 10 percent from last year to more than 1.2 million cars and trucks sold.

Chrysler is the first of the Detroit Three to report its August sales. General Motors Co., Ford Motor Co. and non-domestic automakers are scheduled to release their results later today.
Analysts expect August to be an extremely healthy month, with U.S. sales up about 13 percent to nearly 1.5 million vehicles sold.
